Today saw the return of the ND Primary Schools Year 2 Tennis competition, held at Tarka Tennis. 7 Primary schools competed with 13 teams. Over the day 8 children from Southmead competed in two teams, playing numerous matches of high quality tennis with the winner being the first to score to 7 points. Both Southmead teams were extremely enthusiastic, for some it was their first ever competition and they relished the opportunity. The 8 top teams qualified for the quarter finals with a very delighted Southmead Team A and Team B being part of them, fantastic! In the quarter finals Southmead Team A drew Kingsacre Team A, winning confidently whilst Southmead Team B played Woolacombe Team A. It was an extremely close quarter final that eventually saw Southmead Team B defeated by only a few points. Southmead Team A went on to play Ilfracombe Team A in the Semi-finals with 3 out of 4 players winning their matches, brilliant! In the final Southmead Team A were up against Goodleigh Team A, it was an extremely exciting and challenging moment with all players focusing on winning every point. All schools watched and cheered on, Southmead Team A played superbly and went on to win, a fantastic result for Southmead! Finally, a big thank you to all parents and grandparents that came along to support and umpire on the day. Please come and see the Yr 2 Tennis trophy in reception and the article from the North Devon Journal can be found on the P.E notice board.
