Year 5 Otters and Grey Seals

Welcome back Year 5!

We are really looking forward to teaching and learning in a different way this half term.  We are always at the other end of an email, if you have any questions, worries or want to share your learning with us.

Miss Mugleston and Miss Brailey smiley

๐ŸŒŸStars of the week ๐ŸŒŸ

Grey Seals: Joe C -for a fantastic attitude to learning in school.

Otters: Kovu P - for producing excellent writing at home.

Choosing stars of the week was an extremely difficult job for us this week! We are blown away with how hard you are all working and the quality of work that you are producing. Well done everyone!! ๐Ÿคฉ

Here are some examples of FANTASTIC work from last week! We wonder whose work will be posted next week?! ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐ŸŒŸ

Zoom Timetable WC 11th January

https://zoom.us/s/7045679332?pwd=V2lrS3FUNCtwTlFtV2hOenEzVU1SQT09#success

This link will be used for every meeting on the timetable. Once you have clicked on it, you will not need a meeting ID or password. We will provide a meeting ID and password in case you do not have access to the link. Meeting ID: 704 567 9332     Password: 791044

It would be great to see lots of Year Five faces on zoom next week! However, we understand that it might not be possible everyday, so join when you can smiley

Each week, we would like two pieces of work sent in via the class emails. This will be one piece of writing and one piece of maths work. This work will be sent back, with feedback and a teacher comment. We will make it clear which pieces of work we would like to see on the end of the learning slides.

Thank you everyone. We appreciate how hard everyone is working!

French

To help you continue learning French at home, we have set up a new Duolingo Classroom! Duolingo is a FREE web-based language-learning platform that some of you may already be familiar with. Duolingo classroom allows teachers to review your progress, just like Times Tables Rock Stars. If you are already using Duolingo, login using the class code below: it should allow you to continue your learning from wherever you already are! J

You can access Duolingo online or via the free mobile app, so you can use it on any device that you have available. Each lesson comes with lots of help: just hover your pointer over different parts of a sentence for an explanation, or press the speaker icon to replay a pronunciation.

Each lesson takes only a few minutes, so it’s really easy to fit into your day. We would like you to try to do at least one lesson a day, but you could do five lessons in one go, if you prefer. You can always do more, if you want to: the great thing about Duolingo is that you can work at your own speed.

You don’t need a personal login ID, but you will need an email account to log in with. If you don’t have a personal address yet, ask your parent/carer if they can create one for you, or ask if you can use theirs, to get started. We have added a pdf containing joining instructions for computer, smartphone, or tablet. Click on the pdf icon to find out more.

Monday 11th perimeter on a grid slides

This lesson is a Year 4 revision from what the children would have missed in the previous lockdown.

Tuesday 12th perimeter of a rectangle slides

Still image for this video
For those of you doing the could and challenge questions, I have attached a couple of extra slides that look at perimeter with decimal numbers.
This lesson is a Year 4 revision from what the children would have missed in the previous lockdown.

Wednesday 13th

There is no maths lesson for Wednesday as you would usually do science. Don't forget you can login to Times Table Rockstars to practise and challenge your friends! Your passwords and usernames will be the same as before. Drop us an email if you are having any trouble logging in!

Thursday 14th perimeter of a rectilinear shape slides

Still image for this video
When you have completed Thursday's maths lesson, could you email your work to me and Miss Mugleston and we will give you feedback!
This lesson is a Year 4 revision from what the children would have missed in the previous lockdown.
Friday 15th January calculating perimeter
For Friday's maths lesson, I will be attaching a white rose video that talks you through the lesson of 'calculating perimeter', as I feel it covers all the areas in detail and would be useful for you to use as your input. The worksheet will look slightly different so that the questions are similar to the ones you will have practiced in the video.

This weeks maths worksheet looks slightly different. Everyone will start with the do it questions and will complete each question before moving onto the next section. The questions will start relatively simple and increase in difficulty. This lesson is part of the Year 5 curriculum and not a revision from Year 4! smiley

Spelling WC 11th January ๐Ÿ”ค

In our spelling lessons, we had started to begin our new block which focuses on silent consonant words. This lesson will revisit a few of the words that you had started to look at and you will begin to sort these based on the categories provided. At the end of the lesson, there will be a chance for you to identify silent consonant words within a short piece of text.

Reading comprehension WC 11th January ๐Ÿ“š

The reading comprehension this week is linked to your RE learning. We suggest you complete this task before your RE lesson, to give you a head start with this week's RE task.

It is ordered in difficulty- 3 stars being the most challenging!

Science ๐Ÿงช

We suggest you do your science learning on a Wednesday, as you normally would in school.

We are starting a new topic, all about animal reproduction! This is the process of creating the next generation, to ensure the survival of a species. It happens in many different ways!
This week we are looking at the lifecycles of insects ๐Ÿฆ‹ ๐Ÿž & amphibians ๐Ÿธ . These animals are very different, but both groups lay eggs & their young have to go through a process called 'metamorphosis'.

Head over to the Flipgrid Science topic to find out more! And while you're on Flipgrid, don't forget to say 'Hi' to each other and to your teachers, on the 'Hello' topic.

History WC 11th January โš“โš”๏ธ

Just like we do at at school, we suggest you do your history learning on a Wednesday. This replaces an English lesson, because it normally involves a 'writing heavy' task. You should be using all of the skills we have been learning in English lessons to produce good quality history work, using impressive vocabulary.

We are very excited about the history topic this term and hope you enjoy learning about the events that have shaped Britain!

PSHE WC 11th January ๐Ÿค

This week's PSHE lesson is the last in the unit we have been looking at, called 'Being Me in My World'. It looks at giving advice and taking on the role of an 'Agony Aunt', so get ready to give some expert advice!
