Year Three

Welcome to Year 3. To support your child's learning, we have collated a range of learning tasks your child can access with and without parental support. If you do not have access to a printer, you can just view the documents and write answers. There is no requirement to print!

In addition to the learning tasks below, there are a number of education websites and online education providers that are offering a wide range of free learning resources across all subjects and age ranges. Online learning games & resources your child has access to:

Children should have their logins on the back of their reading records. If not, please email the office if their teacher is not available and these can be given to you.

Task 1: Login to Numbots, create your robot and unlock as many levels as you can using addition & subtraction!

Task 2: Play times table rockstars to practise your times table targets! We've added some extra times tables for you!

Task 3: Choose two times tables activities in the documents from the times table area / section below.

Task 4: Scroll down to the written subtraction section below. Watch the video and then have a go at the questions next to the video!

Task 5: Make up your own maths subtraction game using a spoon, pasta or rice (or something similar), paper and a pencil.

Numbots is a fantastic maths app which supports addition and subtraction! You can download onto tablets, phones and ipads. Once logged in, children can play & develop their maths skills independently.

In Year 3, your child's aim is to know their 2 , 5 ,10, 3, 4 & 8s division and multiplication facts.

English & Spelling

Task 1: Handwriting 

Choose a couple of letters you want to improve. Go to Letter Join and watch how to form them. Practise air writing, using felt tips, playdough or whatever you have at home! Your lead ins at important! 

Task 2: Grammar


Be a mini teacher and teach the adults in your house what nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs are!

Task 3: Spelling

Miss Brooks's phonics class - Log in phonics play

Mrs Priddis's spelling class - scroll down to the spelling section. Choose 5 spellings and use the activities you have learnt in class to practise.

Task 4-5: Write your own story about exploring an extinct volcano. What would you see? Hear? Smell? Touch?


Flipgrid is a controlled online video sharing portal. We will be setting a task each week for you to complete!

Task 1/2: Read to a family member at least twice, pausing at punctuation and changing your voice when characters speech.

Remember the proper name for speech marks is "inverted commas" 

Task 3/4: Go to the reading section/area below and choose two-three reading activities to complete. 

Whilst schools are closed, phonics play are offering free access to parents & carers. This is a great site to support your child's language development.

Place value (Hundreds, Tens & Ones)

Now, try these place value activities!

Practise creating numbers, adding 10/100 and subtracting 10/100. Your child can create numbers in dienes using this site

Finding is 1/2 is the same as dividing by 2 and finding a

The larger number always goes at the top as it subtracts a smaller number.


We always subtract from the ones column first.

We always read the subtraction down.

If you can't subtract, we exchange from the tens/hundreds.

We "exchange" the 10 ones to a ten.

or "exchange" the 10 tens to a hundred.
