Southmead Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required for everyone working or volunteering at our school.
“Excellent relationships and clear expectations for good behaviour result in all classes having a calm and purposeful atmosphere. The school is an extremely inclusive community and all pupils are treated equally.” OFSTED 2013.
Welcome to Southmead Primary School website!
We hope you will find it helpful and that you will enjoy learning more about the way your children learn and develop their skills during their time with us. Maths and English skills are essential in life. We help children become curious, ask questions and explore so the curriculum is exciting and motivates them daily. We promote a sustainable approach to life and children play a key role in valuing our environment and natural resources.
Our goal is to develop a sense of community and encourage your child to make a contribution to our happy, creative, inclusive school. We believe through good manners, tolerance, and understanding of others as well as a sense of responsibility, children will develop life skills fit for the 21st century. Our community encompasses school, our village, and the wider British Isles. We learn about life around the globe and celebrate British values as well as the richness and diversity around us.
Our curriculum is challenging both mentally and physically in order to promote a sense of well being and a sense of achievement. Having a healthy lifestyle, learning how to express themselves, eat a balanced diet and taking exercise regularly help ensure they are ready for a life of learning. We build resilience, provide warmth and support. We expect good discipline, mutual respect and value each individual for what they bring to our school. We cannot achieve this without your help, commitment and support. Partnership with parents/carers is vital.
We have highly trained, cheerful, dedicated staff. They thrive on working in partnership with you in order to realise the potential in every child.
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We have a dedicated Pastoral Support Team and 5 trained Safeguarding Officers. Our school dogs through our sponsored charity 'Dogs Helping Kids' make a wonderful contribution to raising self-esteem and confidence in our children. We keep guinea pigs and fish in school helping children understand the importance of meeting basic needs. We promote and encourage empathy and nurturing of other living beings.
You will see, through photos and comments from our school community, that our staff work hard to ensure your child/children enjoy learning and experience a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
We expect our children to achieve their potential and with your support know they will be happy and thrive at Southmead.
Welcome to our school!
