New Arrivals to the UK

For families that are new to the UK, WELCOME!

Most of the information you need to know about our school is on this website. This webpage will help direct you to other resources that may be of use.

Want to know about how schools in the UK and in Devon work? Click here.

The link will take you to Devon County Council's website that has a range of resources in other languages, such as how to register a child at school.

Need to register your child for the doctors or the dentist?
The doctor's office in Braunton is called Caen Medical Centre. You can pop in to register with them, or use their website here.

There are also doctors in Barnstaple. Please speak to a member of staff if you would like help finding out about them.

There are three dentist offices in Braunton. The first two are available on the NHS, the final one is not.

Click here for Riverside Dental Practice.  Click here for MyDentist Dental Practice. Click here for Caen Dental Practice.

If you need to take your child to a medical appointment, please fill in our medical form and hand it in to the office staff. The form can either be collected from our main office, or it can be found on our website under "Medical" on the "Parents" tab above.

Want to know more about each year group at our school, or our teachers?

You can look at the year group pages on this website, see staff members on our "about us" pages, or you can pop in and see our faces on a board in reception and ask one of our friendly staff members for a curriculum leaflet.

Do you need help with your child's school lunch?

Please look at the "Lunch Menus" page, on our website, under the "Parents" tab. This will include information on what meals are served and how to apply for "pupil premium" (free school meals) for those who are eligible. You can also always talk to staff members at school, we will always be happy to support you.

Do you need help getting to school in the mornings?

Please speak to a staff member as we are happy to look into what can be done to help.

Do you, or does someone in your family need help with grief?

We understand that for some families, moving the UK can cause a lot of upheaval. A local charity called FIG (Families In Grief) can be found here. If your child attends school with us, please do speak to staff as we are happy to support children and families wherever we can.

Want to learn, or develop an understanding of English?

There are plenty of ESOL teachers around Braunton. Click here to find out more.

Schools of Sanctuary

We are working to become a school of sanctuary. We want our school to create a culture of being welcoming and understanding. We have more information about this on our EAL page.

Do your children speak another language?

That's fantastic! We love languages at Southmead School. Please go to our EAL page under "Key Information" to find out how we can support your child.

Do you need any further support?

We have been working with the Pickwell Foundation for many years. They are a charity group dedicated to supporting refugees. They are incredibly knowledgeable, kind and understanding and they would love to help you, if you need them. Click here to see their website.
